How We Got Here
After 25 years of ministry at The Northgate Church, Pastor Richard Vicknair felt the call to pioneer a new church closer to the heart of the city. He began bypraying and seeking God for the where, when, why, and how--and God began speaking to him.
A team was developed and sent out to begin this church plant in Ballard, Washington. Westside began back in 1998 with a few small prayer meetings. A week before Easter of that same year the first Sunday morning service was held in the Ballard Community Center in which 80 people were in attendance. Since then the church has grown significantly in size and is now having a major impact on the entire Ballard community.
Our Vision for Church Planting
Over the last few decades the church within the Seattle City limits has been in decline. New church development has been almost exclusively in outlying areas. One of the ways the devil establishes his foothold in a city is to weaken and dissolve the influence of the church within the city. Westside was born with a heart for the city and God has given us a passion to retake lost ground.
A vital part of our strategy to do this is to plant vibrant new churches, every few years, in strategic areas of the city and then encourage each church to duplicate itself in a similar fashion. Changing times demand changes in strategy. We must wrap the timeless truths of God's kingdom in the packages of our day.The Ovaltine generation has become the Starbucks generation. For this reason our new churches plants will have a variety of flavors, but Christ and His Word will be at the center of all that we do.
