Somebody Cares
Jesus said, "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). In a season where Americans will spend millions of dollars buying toys for kids who's toy boxes are full and gifts for their friends who's garages have no room to contain more stuff, we wanted to create an opportunity for you to experience the blessing that comes from giving. There are four ways to get involved.
- Thanksgiving baskets for those in need - Do you know of someone who is in need of a meal package with a turkey and all of the trimmings for Thanksgiving. We will be putting together and distributing twelve packages this year. If you know of someone in need contact us below, and we will reserve a package for you. Once again, we are partnering together with Plymouth Poultry who will be providing turkeys for the packages. If you would like to get involved and put together the additional food items, please contact us using the info at the bottom of the page.
- Blankets for the homeless - This year we will be collecting full size blankets (no comforters please) and warm clothing (socks, gloves, coats, etc) for the homeless. We are working together with the Union Gospel Mission to help those who are most vulnerable during the cold winter months.
- Christmas gifts for incarcerated youth - For five years running we have put together Christmas gifts for kids locked up at the King County Juvenile Detention Center. These "shoebox" gifts are a great way to reach out to those who need to know somebody cares. Our goal is to put together over 100 gifts, enough for every youth who is locked up.
- Primary school feeding program in Kenya - It costs around $5,000 a year for us to feed 200 children daily at the Dagoretti primary school in the Kibera slum outside of Nairobi (read more here). Though this is not as clearly self sustaining as some of our other missions efforts, we feel that the education these kids receive reaps many future rewards. Consider what you might contribute to our Kenya offering this year which will run through December, culminating on Christmas Eve.
